We are looking for one emerging, one mid-career and one established choreographer working with an interdisciplinary collaborator.  Your collaborator can be at any stage of his/her career. Successful applicants receive a venue for their work, all technicians including lighting designer and stage manager, advertising and publicity and a video archive of the show.  Tina and Kate will fundraise their butts off to try to get you a show fee, but of course we had funding shortfalls and cannot guarantee a fee.  Please read the guidelines carefully to determine if your work is eligible.

5) Please do not submit works that have been performed as part of a student choreographic workshop

Please provide us with the following written material:

2) A piece description (2 page maximum).  Please talk about how the collaborators will work together.  Please talk about how the two original elements (dance and whatever else) will combine to make an exciting work.

Please provide us with a maximum of 10 minutes of video samples. These can include:
1) A recording of the work if it has already been performed or rehearsal footage of the work;
2) Samples of past work if the work has not been started yet;

Series 8:08 – CPW, TAKE TWO and residency – Call to Artists!

In Call to Artists,Workshops on July 19, 2011 by danceumbrella

Our Choreographic Performance Workshop (CPW) is a unique environment and platform that supports choreographic enquiry. We provide a forum where as a choreographer you can practice your creativity and research; and where choreographic works-in-progress can be discussed, explored and experienced. Series 8:08 also provides a venue for sharing practice, discussion and reflection.

Within the CPW program is TAKE TWO. It is an opportunity to show your work-in-progress a second time after a short period of reflection. This 2011/12 season we are thrilled to introduce and offer two residencies, in partnership with Hub 14, for selected TAKE TWO artists. These residencies will provide the two selected participants with time and space at Hub 14, to further research their artistic processes.

The first deadline for Take Two residency applications is September 27th at 5pm!
Residency participants will be chosen from the applicants. This deadline applies if you wish to participate in the November Take Two performance and residency.

What we provide:
* We provide participating choreographers with a performance venue, stage manager, technicians, general publicity, a fee to help cover the costs of performing, a DVD of the performance, written comments from the audience members and informal discussions after each show.
* Choreographers are welcome to participate in Series 8:08’s Resident Outside Eye (ROE) program, an opportunity for all CPW choreographers to receive a more in-depth written response from an established dance artist on their works-in-progress. Our ROE’s for the 2011/12 season are Sylvie Bouchard, Susie Burpee, Susan Cash, Heidi Strauss and TBA.
* Payment policy for CPW Choreographers: The choreographers are guaranteed $125 each. Any box office revenue over the amounts paid to the choreographers is split between the choreographers.

Limited space is available and TAKE TWO is a first come first serve platform. There are only two (2) RESIDENCY slots available. TAKE TWO residencies require an additional application to be completed.

RESIDENCIES: Interested choreographers must apply to a regular CPW for either October or January and send in a second application to Take Two and must be available to present again in November or February.

Call for Installations – In Memory: Something that happens after the then, and before now

In Call to Artists on July 4, 2011 by danceumbrella

It’s strange how we mine the past to inform the future, when the facets that inform our collective memory (our visual archives, our written and oral accounts) are so often flawed, unstable and incomplete.

What is memory? A mental note. Something that changes and degrades over time. A vague recollection. Something palpable. A taste. A smell. A lie?
‘In Memory: Something that happens after then, and before now’ is an exhibition that examines the instability of remembering.
Over the period of six weeks, pairs of artists are asked to take on the challenge of working together to create a collaborative art installation that uses ‘remembering’ as part of the creative process, and memory (or memories) as material. Artists are encouraged to examine the relationships between memory, documentation and truth, and to explore ways of re-imagining or reinterpreting the past.
*******

To submit a proposal, please email us the following:
1) The full name of participating collaborators (2 in total)
2) A brief bio of each collaborator (short and sweet is preferred)
3) A project description of proposed installation
4) Any additional supporting/portfolio material that may enhance proposal (this one’s optional)
Note: Artists are expected to financially support their own projects.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: July 5, 2011
Send proposals to info@labspacestudio.com (subject heading ‘In Memory’)
All applicants will be notified of the results on July 7th.
