Om Laila Internship Positions (Deadline Aug 26)

Om Laila is a belly dance studio, created and run by long-time instructor Roula Said.  It combines traditional belly dance technique and movement with a more holistic approach to the body, incorporating the Seven Waves movement system into each of its classes.

Position Title: Social Media & Administration Intern
This position will involve much of the day-to-day administration of various Om Laila initiatives, and will focus on marketing, promotions and social media. This will include helping to brainstorm and disseminate seasonal marketing promotions, as well as regular website and social media updates.  However, the chosen candidate will be doing everything from reception, to poster creation, to scheduling gigs, out-of-town workshops and band & dance rehearsals.

Position Title: Business Strategy & Administration Intern
This position will focus on business strategy and marketing for the Seven Waves movement system.  The chosen candidate will create a business plan for Seven Waves. This process will entail thorough research on successful business strategies and the alternative health industry to deliver the Seven Waves movement to a large and diverse audience.  The position will also include detailed financial and logistical planning, promotions, communications and strategic thinking. The other aspect of this position is the day-to-day administration of  various Om Laila initiatives.  This could include various office duties such as reception, establishing relationships with various sectors of the industry, poster creation, scheduling gigs, out-of-town workshops and band & dance rehearsals.

These are unpaid internships.  The chosen candidates will, however, be rewarded with unlimited free belly dancing and Seven Waves classes, as well as extensive opportunities to make connections within the arts, dance, fitness and music industry.

Artistic Interns wanted: Theatre Gargantua (Deadline Aug 17)

Theatre Gargantua is seeking TWO interns who are serious and committed to pursuing a career in the performing arts. Our internship program is designed to provide an opportunity for emerging artists to expand their skills and experience through observing and participating in Theatre Gargantua’s creation cycle. Specifically, participants will attend all rehearsal and creative meetings while simultaneously assisting in areas of production (e.g. set, lighting, costumes, stage management, and director assistance) and administration (e.g. publicity, marketing and promotion). Through this program, interns will develop new skills that will be useful in future artistic and producing endeavours.

The internship will begin at the end of September and continue through performances of the world premiere of IMPRINTS to be staged at Factory Studio Theatre from November 08 to November 26.

Successful applicants will have a background in theatre or dance, an interest in multi-disciplinary work and/or collaborative creation processes, and are able to commit to the full length of the project. Interns will receive an honorarium for their participation.

DanceNL is the first sectoral dance association for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its mandate is “to preserve, promote and support all forms of dance and dance activities throughout the province.” The Board of Directors is currently seeking a contract Project Administrator to develop a Strategic Plan to advance the organization in the short and long-term, as well as enhance the membership, and oversee general administrative duties during the course of the contract.

The Project Administrator would be responsible for:
• Working with the DanceNL Board and feedback from the membership to develop a 3-5 year plan with clearly defined objectives.
• Working to augment membership and develop strategies to retain current members.
• Increasing the public’s awareness of DanceNL through public relations as well as website and social media tools.
• Performing additional administrative and organizational duties as needed.

Required competencies:
• Strong organisational and planning skills
• Able to work independently while liaising with a volunteer Board
• Able to multi-task around various projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comfortable dealing both with the public and the media
• Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Familiar with social media tools including Facebook and Twitter

Key assets:
• Experience with strategic planning, including the ability to work closely with the Board to determine realistic and attainable goals
• Familiar with the local dance community, or have a strong willingness to learn

Work Term: Fall 2011 – 12 weeks
Contract Fee: $8400 ($20/hr @ 35 hrs/week) PENDING FUNDING APPROVAL

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Artistic Director or Programming Coordinator with implementing and carrying out the objectives of the Summer aRts Program thru:

• Consultation, orientation, and planning of work for the program with the Artistic

Director and Staff/Team;

• Outreaching to potential youth participants for the program; using outlets in schools, libraries, community centres, online communities, etc., by generating copy for outreach materials; distributing, logging/updating materials and contacts and registering participants for the Program;

• Arrange logistics for workshops, trips, performances as per schedule including attendance, ticket distribution, hospitality and transportation, venues and other resources for participants and facilitators;

• Be an on-site liaise for facilitators and participants at program venues (school,

neighbourhood, trip and performance venues including generating and posting necessary signage;

• Work with the program facilitators to track feedback, participant attendance, and maintain participants’ files with information on work progress, special needs, allergies and other concerns.

• Assume any additional tasks related to the program as needed and or assigned

by the Programming Coordinator or other Staff/Team.

2. Assist with food coordination for all Summer aRts program activities and any other b current summer events.

3. Assist in building and maintaining company relationship with potential and existing community partners [such as Nia Centre, Earlscourt Community Centre, Rexdale Boys & Girls Club, ArtStarts, & Toronto Community Housing in different neighbourhoods]

4. Assist with company’s outreach by being a representative & ‘face’ at all events related to b current work, including distributing promotional material/posters and flyers.

5. Development of social media campaigns primarily with face book and twitter

6. Provide planning, logistics and implementation support for b current summer events

7. Assist in set up/run/strike for various events

8. Assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination for the various events

9. Maintain a volunteer tracking system, to record hours and participation

10. Perform Front of House duties (ushering & box office), as needed

The ideal candidate is skilled at relationship and community building, revenue development and is aware of the artistic and political climate facing theatre across the province and Canada.  Reporting to the Board of Directors, the candidate is strong on financial management, adept at written and oral communication, and creative in delivering a range of programs that serve theatre and theatre artists across the province.  This candidate encourages partnerships with other arts service organizations in advocating for and on behalf of theatre, in addressing cultural and political issues, whenever and wherever possible.

 Primary responsibilities:

-Working closely with a 15-member board composed of representatives from many segments and regions of the Ontario theatre community.

-Managing Theatre Ontario’s finances including grant applications, regular reporting to funders and sponsors, and developing and managing the organization’s annual budget.

-Overseeing fundraising activities and being an active member of the Revenue Generation Committee, chaired by the Treasurer.

-Acting as a spokesperson and advocate on behalf of the organization, its members and the Ontario theatre community at large.

-Implementing the current strategic plan in partnership with the board and staff.

-Planning and managing the day-to-day operations of Theatre Ontario.

-Supervising, developing and leading the organization’s personnel.

-Identifying opportunities and working partnerships that further goals and objectives of the organization’s new strategic objectives.

-Flexibility to travel around the province and attend occasional Board and Committee meetings on evenings and weekends as required.

 Qualifications:

-A minimum of 5 years of professional arts administration / management experience in either professional or community theatre.

-Post-secondary degree or diploma in Arts Management, Fund Raising or similar degree/diploma, or equivalent work experience in the field.

-Knowledge and passion for the theatre community across Ontario.

-Recognized leadership in the arts community that invites and stimulates partnerships with funders, sponsors and colleagues.

-Expert knowledge and proven experience in annual planning, grant-writing and revenue generation from a variety of sources including both earned and contributed revenue.

-Experience in financial reporting and accounting practices in the charitable sector.

-Strong organizational skills that include managing multiple assignments and workload distribution in order to meet deadlines.

-Excellent command of English in both written and oral communication.  French is an asset.

 

Remuneration: Commensurate with experience.
