Summer Flamenco Dance Intensive with Belen Maya

Academy of Spanish Dance and Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company are delighted to announce our

2011 Summer Intensive with
Belen Maya

JULY 24 to JULY 29, 2011

The daughter of two great flamenco artists, Carmen Mora and Mario Maya, Belen began her studies with maestros such as Paco Fernandez, María Magdalena, Goyo Montero, Rosa Naranjo, Carmen Cortes and Paco Romero at Madrid’s Amor de Dios studios. She made her debut at the Zambra tablao in Madrid later moving on to Cafe de Chinitas and Corral de la Pacheca. In Seville she performed first in tablaos like Los Gallos and the Patio Andaluz, and later on as a member of the Companía Andaluza de Danza which was directed for a time by her father, Mario Maya. Belen formed her own company in 1996 and has received outstanding reviews for productions such as Flamenco de Camara (2003) with Maite Martín and Dibujos (2005). Acclaimed as one of this generations most important figures, Belen holds in perfect balance tradition and classicism with a modern, contemporary aesthetic. Belen alternates performing and teaching and is a member of the teaching faculty of the Festival de Jerez.
