Call to Artists: Gadfly proFRESHional Intensive

In Call to Artists on June 17, 2011 by danceumbrella

Right now, thousands of dancers train only in one of two ways: choreography or Freestyle. This program is to create Gadfly dancers: dancers that can adapt, stand out and book jobs regularly. We designed a unique program that will cover the 3 major aspects required for any serious dancer who wants to stand out and get work regularly: Choreography, Freestyle and the one thing that limits most dancers, yourself. We are not talking here about how to book a small music video, spend over 12hrs on set, and hope your friend noticed you in the 1.0002 seconds shot in which you were in. We are sharing the skills, experiences, knowledge, tips, successes, and mistakes that put dancers in feature films, tv commercials, music videos, and theatrical productions. This is a directed program where you can expect to get real training, real feedback, and real things you can apply on your next audition or rehearsal.

Open to professional & emerging dance artists in Hip hop, Contemporary, Modern, or jazz, by application only. [limited enrolment]

This Summer Intensive sets itself apart as the only one that focuses on the commercial and theatrical components and requirements of the business, and emphasizes how important street dance is today. The inter-disciplinary program will incorporate:

  • Techniques in street dances, contemporary and Urban contemporary
  • Freestyle strategies
  • Audition preparation and execution
  • Acting improvisation
  • Portfolio and community building
