Workshops – West African Drum and Dance w/ Mohamed Diaby & Mito Camara

To introduce traditional West African rhythms to all levels of participants in a joyful positive environment!

Each workshop will give the participant a good solid foundation of the structure of music from Guinea, West Africa. Both Mohamed and Mito have worked in touring ballets and have been exposed to a variety of different experiences to share with you!

It is a fun relaxed environment allowing each individual to experience and learn at their own pace.
Come out and have fun. Work on your technique, sound, stamina or just work on your smile and enjoy!

1:00pm-2:30pm – DRUM CLASS with MAMADOUBA ‘MITO’ CAMARA – $25
*2:30pm-4:00pm – DANCE CLASS with MOHAMED DIABY – $30 – Baga Guinea style of dancing and simultaneously play the bass drums (dundun). This is a style of drum and dance that was developed in Guinea, by Les Merveilles which Mohamed Diaby was a member of in Guinea. *Due to the fact that drums and sticks are needed for this dance class, please pre-register to secure a drum/space.

12:00pm-1:30pm – DANCE CLASS with MAMADOUBA ‘MITO’ CAMARA – $20
2:00pm-5:00pm – 3HR DRUM INTENSIVE CLASS with MOHAMED DIABY – $35 – Traditional style Dundun and Djembe class
This drum workshop will demonstrate the structure of a traditional rhythm as well as breakdown all accompaniment parts and solo phrases on djembe as well as learning the traditional style of playing the bass drums. Each individual will be challenged to play all parts of a rhythm.
