Increased Mind/Body Awareness Movement Re-Education with Alexander Technique with Rosa Luisa Rossi and R. J. Fleck, Alexander Technique Educators
Wednesday, June 29, 2011
Time: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Fee: $50 / Students and Seniors: $40

Location: Artists’ Health Centre, Toronto Western Hospital, 399 Bathurst Street (3rd Floor, West Wing)

Alexander Technique is a method of engaging our thinking with our activities using principles that re-direct coordination and movement, helping to eliminate unwanted physical habits and tensions in the body and encourage greater ease and fluidity. Through a combination of practical exercises, directed activities and hands-on work with the teachers, participants will explore new possibilities for self-organization in respect to their current movement demands, and develop new ways of engaging this thinking with their activity. Emphasis will be placed on:

* Increasing awareness and sensitivity to personal patterns of movement
* Developing skills to inhibit habitual response and reaction
* Applying a new understanding to daily life

Sessions involve practical components, and participants are asked to bring a yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing.

Rosa Luisa Rossi has been working with the Alexander Technique for the last 30 years. She has taught all over the world, giving residential workshops and special courses to adults, children, artists, sport practitioners, as well as teaching in corporate environments. Based in Zurich, Rosa Luisa teaches in German, English, French, and Italian. She has been a board member and chair person for the Swiss Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (SVLAT) and is an active member of Alexander Technique International (ATI). She was one of the three directors of the 8th International Congress for Teachers of the Alexander Technique which took place in August 2008 in Lugano, Switzerland. She is inspired by the development of human potential.

RJ Fleck holds advanced degrees from the Universities of Toronto, California, and Stanford University in music performance and composition, computer science and digital audio engineering. For the last several years, he has been devoting time to embodiment practices such as the Alexander Technique, The Pilates Method, Tai Chi and Vipassana Meditation. He completed certification at the Susan Sinclair Alexander Technique and Pilates Centre as a teacher of the Alexander Technique in 2007, and as a teacher of the Pilates Method in 2009. As an accomplished pianist, he has found the methods of the Alexander Technique to be a life-transforming tool.
