Call for actors/actresses with physical theatre experience or interest, and production volunteers for Toronto Fringe Festival Site-specific Performance.

In Call to Artists on May 24, 2011 by danceumbrella

Co-founded by Gillian Street and Emily Niedoba, Urban Jungle Theatre produces and develops innovative and and experimental site-specific performances that are visually and emotionally compelling. Please visit www.urbanjungletheatre.ca for more information.

Our first project set for Toronto’s 2011 Fringe Festival is a site-specific performance. With it we hope to set a standard of artistic excellence which will heighten audience demand for site-specific theatre in Toronto.

This site-specific collaborative creation explores the life of a spy, as imagined by the people that have found his body. The piece combines elements of text, physical theatre, dance, music and circus arts as the characters discover who this person could have been and, at the end, who he was.

Currently we need 10 ‘extras’ for a few scenes in our show and the time commitment would be very small – Saturday rehearsals in June from 2-6pm on Central Technical School grounds, the dress and tech rehearsals in the first week of July – all held after 6pm during weekdays, and then the actual performances during the Fringe – July 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17th all at 7pm at Central Technical School – 90min show.

We are also looking to fill the following production volunteer positions:

Assistant Stage manager,
Promoters and Flyer Distribution (before and during the Festival), Ushers and audience control/playing space securityrs into the school and Performance space set-up and clean-up.
For these production roles you will not need to attend the rehearsals in June, but only the dress and technical rehearsals and performances in July.

We will validate the completion of all 40 mandatory volunteer hours for high-school students and provide reference letters for roles successfully filled. Production positions can also be doubled for more volunteer hours.

Participation in our show will also be acknowledged in our program and on our website (urbanjungletheatre.ca).

We look forward to having you join us in our creative process. Please contact Assistant Producer Jahnavi at jahnavi@urbanjungletheatre.caor emily@urbanjungletheatre.ca by 5pm on Tuesday May 31 if you are interested in joining our team. Selections will be made by Thursday June 2 and the first rehearsal will be Saturday June 4, location TBA.
