Guest Speaker Charles C. Smith
Facilitated by Kevin A. Ormsby,
Arts Marketing Consultant, Dancer/Choreographer

After a successful first session of engaging artists, companies and administrators…it is now time to re-engage and discuss what it is we have to contribute as Canadian Dance artists. We want to use this opportunity to provide, facilitate and inform ourselves and others of the potential that is available to our community.

D’Conversations is open to all; from aspiring to professional dancers, from educators to presenters. At this session we have invited Guest Speaker Charles C. Smith (Writer, poet and Professor at the University of Toronto Scarborough) who will address connections between dance in the Diaspora and Situations of the Arts in North America.

Our d’Moves and d’ Conversations series pair the best of your suggestions with the best of our programming in these engaging initiatives. So what exactly is d’Moves? The “d” in dance is represented by the capital “D” and the spirit of the dance is embodied in the moves, hence d’ Moves. The same is true of our conversations and after our first session on engaging the
community we came up with a counterpart to d’Moves which is having conversations around the subject matter of dance. From this concept comes D’ Conversations, focusing on the need
to have more engaging conversations on dance.

The first d’Moves will be a part of the dance Immersion workshop series will be May 26th 6-9 pm at Ballet Creole Studios.
All workshops will be FREE to participants.

Help spread the word tell a friend, to tell a friend, and help make the first session of d’Moves a success!

Your opinions are important to us as we make our mark on the Canadian and international dance scene. Be part of sessions leading up to dance Immersion’s hosting of the
International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) Conference in January 2012.

We look forward to conversing and dancing with you
