Call to Artists INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY LAUNCH

In Call to Artists on December 3, 2010 by danceumbrella

DanceTO (formerly the Toronto Dance Day Committee) is pleased to announce the fifth annual International Dance Day celebrations in Yonge-Dundas Square!

Yonge and Dundas Square, May 1 or 8, 2011 3:00 – 5:00 pm

We are now accepting applications from artists to perform and teach at our launch event, Dance in Dundas Square, on Sunday, May 1st or 8th in Toronto (exact date TBC).

DanceTO is looking for performances that will be on the stage and off the stage around the square.  We seek representation from all forms of dance in the Toronto community, so if you do acrobatics, ballet, ballroom, b-boying, bollywood, clowning, cultural, contemporary, jazz, modern, musical theatre, street performance, or tap complete the application below to be a part of the 2011 International Dance Day Celebrations.

We are currently seeking funding for the presentation of these projects, fees ranges from $250 to $500. This funding we are pursuing will be for multiple years, so if you have an idea that you would like to have presented at the 2012 International Dance Day please submit. We will help you with seeking funding for the creation of this work and we would be able to give you a presentation fee for the work.

We are looking for works that are upbeat, musical, colourful and eye catching. We want to kick off International Dance Day on a high note. We are looking for works that will draw an audience in from across the square and works that would be able to be placed around the square so that not all the performances are on the stage but that there is literally dance happening all around the square. We want to entice people in and make them stay for the rest of the event.
We have expanded our activities to include a month of events with the Yonge-Dundas Square event being the largest and launching Toronto into a month of diverse artist-lead dance activities. If you are interested in hosting additional free public activities in your community and/or neighbourhood in the period from April 29 – May 26, 2010 2011, please contact us to be included in our outreach and public promotions.
