Dance Matters Series 2010/11

Series 1
‘A Woman’s Work’ – DEADLINE AUG. 23, MIDNIGHT
Seeking work that explores, thematically, some aspect of the perception of women in our society; how they are/were perceived in different cultures, how women perceive themselves and/or how they are perceived by their peers/community and/or the questioning of gender roles in current or historical societies.

Series 2
‘Risky Business and Rebel Yells’ – DEADLINE OCT. 25, MIDNIGHT
This series encourages physical, choreographic/artistic performance risks; fusion of dance aesthetics and forms; dances with risk or rebelliousness as the central theme.

Series 3
‘From the Fryin’ Pan’ – DEADLINE JAN. 24, MIDNIGHT
This series focuses on fresh, spontaneous energy. An excellent platform for emerging artists, improvisers / improvisation collectives, collaborations, choreographers presenting newly-finished works.

Interpretations of the themes is strongly encouraged.

The venue is intimate and casual, with a focus on celebrating the dance medium with its audience. A post-show discussion will delve into each artist’s creative mind and ingenuity, and into the exciting world of dance making.

1. Choreographers’ CV and biography
2. Performer biographies
3. Piece description
4. A paragraph explaining how the proposed work relates to the theme presented in the series. Interpretations are encouraged. ** This is an important aspect of your application, please give this aspect of the proposal considerable thought and consideration.
5. List of props, or special technical requests.

Works of up to 20min will be considered, you may propose an excerpt of a longer work, a remounted work, or a new piece.

This series is meant to showcase finished works/well-developed pieces and NOT works-in-progress. Any form of dance is encouraged so long as the work is an original choreography!

You will receive an honourarium of $250, a DVD of each performance, full technical staff and marketing and a fantastic opportunity to show your work and meet other artists!
