Centre Shift

presented by Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre (CCDT)

June 3 to June 6, 2010 (3-5 @ 8pm, 6 @ 2pm). Tickets are $18 and $28.

Location: Winchester Street Theatre, 80 Winchester Street, Toronto

Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre’s electrifying showcase, CENTRE SHIFT, features premières by renowned dancer, choreographer and CCDT Artist-in-Residence, William Yong, and CCDT Artistic Director, Deborah Lundmark.

William Yong describes his “Truce” as “a quirky, magical and dynamic dance work inspired by how people react to new, unrecognized, and unfamiliar things in life.” The commission for seven dancers poses the question of whether the human race has learned from past meetings of civilizations.

Lundmark’s “Precipice” explores a series of contemporary tangos inspired by Yo-Yo Ma’s interpretations of Astor Piazzolla compositions.

Complementing the premières are remounts of Lundmark’s While We Were Walking set to Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins in B Minor; David Earle’s classic expression of innocence and experience, “Serious Games”; Robert Glumbek’s sassy “Out and About”; and Colin Connor’s “ARENA”, which careens between the technical virtuosity and youthful abandon that are hallmarks of CCDT dancers.
